Rubik’s Cube

A sip from my coffee,
‘Huff! huff!’
Too hot.
I rush for a napkin to save my mouth from the hell I’d dunked myself in,
As I do so, I elbow the coffee cup making its contents spill all over the floor, broken pieces of glass scattered.
‘Darn it!’
A waitress rushes over and asks if I’m okay,
At this point I’m glowing from embarrassment, bordering beet red.
I’m mad at how clumsy I can be.

I pay up,
For the coffee, I hadn’t drunk and the damages I’d done.
Giving a rather huge tip as if to aton for my sin.

I gather my stuff too slow to avoid another ‘scene’. Having made sure everything of mine was intact and in place, I slowly walk out of the coffee shop filled with a newly attained audience of coffee drinkers; chanting to myself, ‘Don’t trip missy.’
And I’m out of the coffee shop. Hurrah!
‘Mi Amor,’ I hear a familiar voice say.
I turn around and it’s him.
After 10 fucking years, it’s him.
‘Still clumsy I see,’ He smiles.
And I?
I blush! Why? Stop it.
Not the game plan huh?
I lean forward to give him a hug,
My phone crashes face down on the pavement,
‘Darn it!’
I quickly look up,
His eyes meet mine,
And we both laugh,
We laughed…
For a few more years after,
To date.
Who knew lost love could find it’s way back home?

One of my favourite poets; Sarah Doughty.
