“Music is what makes up the single soul we share. I don’t think I’ll ever find another person in the entire world who understands me the way Lea does. We’re the only two people in the universe who speak our language.”
These are the initial words that captured my heart After which I started bawling my eyes out. Bowman Akemi Dawn does it again as he brings about all the emotions related with grief. ‘Summer bird blue’ is about Rumi Seto who has her whole life planned out intertwined with that of her sister Lea but fate intervenes and Lea ends up dying in a horrid car crash. Rumi’s mother sends her to Hawaii with her aunt so as she may grieve but this makes Rumi feel as if she has been abandoned by her mother to grieve alone the loss of her sister in a sad summer of saying goodbye.
This novel is quite a stunner in my own words since it brings out the grief process as it is. Also, the vivid imagery brought about by Bowman on Hawaii is so epic, you’d feel as if you just took a vacay to the actual place.
Also, the lead character portrays a trait that one rarely comes across in most of today’s reads.
The role played by Kai is one I never saw coming plus her friendship with her neighbours at Hawaii helps her in the grief process.
Plus for the record one does not Just read” Summer Bird Blue” one experiences it
