For a book that began with such a compelling dedication I expected more. Don’t get me wrong, I love Tarryn Fisher. I love her writing style and I absolutely loved this story. Tarryn has a way with words to make villains likeable, relatable even. She is the author that would pick a basic story where girl falls in love with her best friend’s boyfriend as is the case for this book, flip it and turn it into a page turner.
Is F*ck Love by Tarryn Fisher a page turner? Yes. Are the characters likeable? Yes. Is the story worth your time? Yes. If this was probably my first read by Tarryn Fisher probably I’d rate it higher, who knows. But that’s not the case. The facts are I have read Tarryn’s books and most revolve around mystery and psychological thrillers.
The book does begin with a sense of mystery, where one isn’t sure if this is about to be a time traveler’s love story or what. For a thriller author writing contemporary romance though, I thought…sigh, I thought I’d get to see the insanely obsessive kind of relationships unfold in the name of love. One with plot twists that would have you gasping and mouthing curse words out in public.
Do I hate this book? No, not really. It just didn’t hit the spot for me. Regardless, this is an overall good read and I would recommend the book to contemporary romance readers.
My Favourite Quote
“Trying to walk away from something you love is like trying to drown yourself. You want to, but it’s unnatural to not crave air. Your body demands it; your mind says you need it. Eventually you break to the surface, gasping and unable to deny yourself that basic need of air. Of love. Of fierce desire.”
